Dr Mucemi Gakuru is a distinguished institutional leader, electrical engineer, and innovator with over twenty-five years of experience in infrastructure development, academia, and public-sector transformation. A First Class Honours graduate of the University of Nairobi, he earned his PhD in Microwave Engineering from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. His career reflects a consistent commitment to bridging advanced technology with meaningful social impact.
A pioneer in African ICT innovation, Dr Gakuru led the development of the first Kiswahili Text-to-Speech system and later the Kenyan English Text-to-Speech system. He also spearheaded KENGLEX, a comprehensive digital lexicon of Kenyan English, and invented Kokoboda, a patented transport solution to improve rural mobility.
In public service, he has overseen major urban mobility projects funded by the World Bank and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. A former Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, he remains committed to mentoring emerging researchers and innovators.
With The School Leavers’ Party, Dr Gakuru expands into literary storytelling, blending personal memory and cultural history to reflect on tradition, transition, and modern African identity.
