Prof. Elias Muthias Nwana (1933-2021) was a distinguished Cameroonian scholar, educator, and community leader whose life reflected an enduring commitment to learning, research, and cultural heritage. He pursued higher education at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he earned a degree in Sociology, before continuing to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he obtained both Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Education. His international academic journey shaped a well-rounded scholar with a deep appreciation for both African and global perspectives on knowledge and development.

Prof. Nwana served Cameroon’s secondary and tertiary education sectors with distinction, holding several leadership and academic positions, including Principal of CCAST Bambili, Director of Studies at the Ministry of National Education, Associate Professor at the Higher Teacher Training College (ENS) Bambili, and Vice-Chancellor of the Bamenda University of Science and Technology. In each of these roles, he demonstrated visionary leadership, scholarly excellence, and a steadfast dedication to national educational growth.

Rooted in his native Bali Nyonga, Prof. Nwana was also an accomplished anthropologist and sociologist who curated and interpreted the cultures of the Grassfields region. His research, writings, and mentorship reflected his belief that education and culture are the twin foundations of personal fulfilment, community progress, and national development.
