Prof Mathew B. Gwanfogbe (1943–2024) was a distinguished Cameroonian historian and educator whose career spanned several decades of impactful scholarship and institutional leadership. He served as Vice-Chancellor of the Bamenda University of Science and Technology and previously held the position of Director-Delegate at the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS Annex) in Bambili.
A committed contributor to historical research and academic discourse, Dr Gwanfogbe was the editor-in-chief of the Pantikar Journal of History, a founding member of the Cameroon Historical Society, and an active member of the British History of Education Society. His scholarly work focused extensively on the history of education in Cameroon, and his publications remain influential in the field.
Dr Gwanfogbe was a Knight of the Cameroon Order of Merit and a long-standing member of the Bali Historical Society. He earned his PhD in History from the University of London and was widely respected for his dedication to advancing historical knowledge and educational development in Cameroon.
