Orleans Mfune is senior Lecturer at the University of Zambia, in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Orleans holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and a Master of Human Ecology Degree from Vrije Universiteit Brussels in Belgium. Orleans has researched and published extensively in sustainable development, forest resource governance, land tenure, energy poverty and rural-urban linkages in Africa.
He was the founding chairperson of the ESDA Next Generation Researchers (NGR) and also held the positions of Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and Assistant Dean (Research) of the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Zambia.
